Probiotics and gut health
The gut harbors a diverse ecosystem of microorganisms (known as the gut microbiome), living in a beneficial symbiotic relationship with our body to support digestion for optimal health and wellbeing. Consuming probiotics can be a great way to keep this microbial community in balance, and in turn, keep our guts smiling from ear to ear. Probiotics are live organisms (e.g. bacteria, fungi, etc.) found in food or supplements that elicit positive health effects when consumed. Common probiotics include bacteria from the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium genera, and a specific yeast-based probiotic, Saccharomyces boulardii. Fermented foods
